Business teachers strive to help their students master the skill of applying their knowledge and understanding to various business contexts. However, most students only grasp the explicit situation. Therefore, your child will likely struggle with relevant explanations of their points or reasons.

Using powerful techniques, your son or daughter will be able to extract explicit information and data, while learning how to read between the lines to draw out the implicit scenario. Thus, enabling them to perfect their explanations.

Analyse Relevantly

Some of the most common questions a business teacher asks, include: “Why?”, “Why not X?” “What could happen if?”, “How might this impact Y?”. However, these questions are typically bounced around the classroom rather than targeted towards one student. Therefore, not one student is fully analysing themselves like they would in an exam.

Working with me, allows your son or daughter to develop analysis skills to a greater level than their peers because every developmental question is aimed at them. As a result, these questions will be so embedded that they intuitively and instinctively ask themselves the questions during their exam, thus scoring a higher grade.

Evaluate Decisively

Students often lose marks when it comes to deciding upon the best option or course of action for a business in question. Typically, they will write something similar to “X is the best option because… but, Y is the best for…”, and therefore, their conclusion lacks clarity: what is the overall best option?

With practice questions and continuous repetition, I will be able to help your son or daughter become increasingly decisive. They will be able to judge the best course of action and support it with relevant explanations while arguing why the other options are not suitable.

Homework & Assignments

Some students struggle with homework and assignments for various reasons. From a lack of content knowledge and understanding to not knowing how to complete the task at hand. 

In our lessons, I can go through your son’s or daughter’s homework and assignments just like their teacher if they had additional time to provide personal support.

This way, answers are not handed to them on a plate, but rather squeezed out of them through scaffolded questioning that leads them to discover the answer themselves.

What happens during the free 15-minute introduction?

At Business Tutor, we believe that your son or daughter should work with the perfect tutor for them. While we exclusively feature the best business studies tutors, teaching and learning styles may not match, nor personalities.

So, the 15-minute introduction is an opportunity for your son or daughter to ask questions about the tutor, their teaching style, and the way the tutoring sessions will work.

Similarly, our business studies tutor will ask your son or daughter questions too. Typically, these include:

  • What’s their year group?

  • What’s the exam board?

  • What’s their mock grade?

  • What’s their typical feedback from their business teacher?

  • What they would like to focus on?

  • And, then a mini series of questions to assess their understanding of the assessment objectives set out by Ofqual, which governs all exam boards.

At Business Tutor, we exclusively feature business studies tutors who hold the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Degree in Business;

  • Minimum of a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PDGE);

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

In essence, our online business studies tutors are highly qualified professionals. We have these requirements for several reasons:

Business Degree

First of all, some teachers are somewhat forced into teaching subject from other, less popular subjects like Law and Psychology, due to staffing requirements, and have learnt along the way.

In other words, they have not studied Business in-depth like they would have done at university, instead only surface-level in order to teach it to an acceptable standard – but, at Business Tutor, we strive for outstanding, and that requires the deepest subject knowledge.

PGCE or PGDE

Secondly, anybody can deeply understand the subject of Business.

However, not everybody can but actually pass on the the information in the most effective way for learning.

You may have experienced it at university yourself whereby lectures just talk at you.

At Business Tutor, we are teachers.

We have learnt how to convey the information in the most easy-to-understand way in the most efficient way possible. Striving for endless lightbulb moments is the goal. And, that certainly does not involve talking at students, but engaging in conversations with them.

Qualified Teacher Status

Finally, not everybody who holds a PGCE or PGDE holds a QTS, and at Business Tutor, all of our business studies tutors hold it, making them fully qualified teachers.

This Status is only achieved after a year of experience with the most rigorous requirements with frequent lesson observations and feedback for growth.

At Business Tutor, our business studies tutors have at least two years of experience following the achievement of their QTS in a State school.

We exclusively feature teachers whom have experience in State schools due to the unprecedented pressure to develop as a practitioner while balancing a wide range of student needs from learning difficulties to learning disabilities.

In addition, many business studies tutors we exclusively feature are highly familiar with the business studies curriculum as they’re either currently or were recently employed as teachers or heads of departments.

At Business Tutor, our business studies tutors only support business studies students studying:

  • AQA

  • Edexcel

  • OCR

We cover all three exam boards for GCSE Business Studies or A-Level Business Studies, including BTEC Level 2 and 3.

Unfortunately, we do not support students undertaking International Baccalaureate (IB).

Yes, we exclusively feature online business studies tutors. While we appreciate some parents prefer private business studies tutors in their home, 95% of parents prefer an excellent tutor, regardless of whether they are in the same town or not.

No! At Business Tutor, we’ve trialled interactive whiteboards for business education during online lessons, and it’s inefficient.

If you’ve ever tried to write or draw a signature with a mouse or trackpad, you’ll know how difficult it is.

So, we use Google Docs during the online tutoring sessions, and your son or daughter has access to it too. It’s faster! Your son or daughter will progress faster too.

They’ll participate throughout the lesson, and produce homework, using the same, shared Google Docs. It’s effectively a record of their learning experience.

Some of our business studies tutors will operate slightly differently, so we recommend asking them during the free 15-minute introduction.

At Business Tutor, we believe an “outstanding” business studies tutor goes beyond a Degree in Business, PGCE/PDGE, and QTS. It includes other elements too:

Exam Board Familiarity

GCSE and A-level Business Studies are governed by Ofqual, and developed by exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR. An “outstanding” business studies tutor has in-depth knowledge of the specifications, assessment criteria, and past papers.

Exam Technique

While Ofqual determines the assessment objectives, including:

  • AO1: Knowledge and Understanding

  • AO2: Application

  • AO3: Analysis

  • AO4: Evaluation

Exam boards award marks slightly differently due to the differences in terms of the command words and marks available. While paragraph structures are more or less the same, emphasis on certain aspects of a paragraph vary.

If they start working with us early in Year 12, once every two weeks. However, at the start of Year 13, once a week. After February half-term, 2 to 3 lessons a week is common for the final push.

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Twenty-four hours before the lesson, you can cancel the lesson free-of-charge. You can reschedule or request a refund. However, if it’s within 24-hours, we charge the full amount of the lesson. This is the standard across the industry.

Yes. We have fully qualified teachers who provide online tutoring for GCSE and A-Level Economics, and it’s the only business-related subject that we do.
